American Balkan Chamber of Commerce Hosts Inaugural Event at The Penn Club in New York City

The American Balkan Chamber of Commerce (“ABCC”) announces the successful completion of its inaugural event, held at The Penn Club in New York City. This landmark gathering marked the official launch of the ABCC, underscoring its commitment to fostering economic growth, trade, and cultural exchange between the United States and the Balkan region.

In the opening remarks, Eliza Prendzov, President of the ABCC, laid out the vision for the Chamber, stating, “This inaugural event sets the foundation for a dynamic platform through which businesses from the U.S. and the Balkans can connect, collaborate, and thrive together.”

The keynote address was given by Mr. Edward Mermelstein, New York City’s Commissioner for International Affairs. Commissioner Mermelstein highlighted the pivotal role of international collaboration in driving economic development and emphasized New York City’s dedication to supporting global business initiatives.

The opening panel, organized with the instrumental support from Ambassador Zoran Popov, titled “Business Opportunities in the Balkan Region,” featured esteemed ambassadors:

  • His Excellency Zoran Popov – North Macedonia
  • His Excellency Sven Alkalaj – Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • His Excellency Ilir Dugolli – Kosovo
  • His Excellency Jovan Mirković – Montenegro

Moderated by the esteemed Dr. Juan Carlos Mercado, Dean of The City College of New York, CUNY, the panel delved into the diverse business landscapes of the Balkan countries, exploring avenues for investment in the countries, the partnerships that can be built in the region, and the way businesses can be competitive for the United States market. The Ambassadors expressed support for the work of the chamber, and the much needed collaboration between the balkan countries to penetrate the American markets.

The second Panel, “How Can Balkan Countries Be Competitive for Attracting Foreign Investment, Exporting Goods, Providing Services for the World,” was moderated by Aleks Mitreski from ABCC and included distinguished speakers:

  • His Excellency Vladimir Božovič, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York
  • Marjan Bojadziev, Rector of University American College Skopje
  • Admir Kulin, successful entrepreneur from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The panelists provided valuable insights into enhancing the Balkan region’s competitiveness, strategies for attracting foreign investment, and expanding export capabilities to the United States.
